Misconceptions Pertaining College Students Who Obtain a Job

This literature review will focus on the scope of college student’s whom have a job while going to school full time versus college students who do not have a job and the effects on their academic success. It will identify the contributing factors dealing with Seton Hall University student’s academics. In addition this literature review will identify the possible solutions dealing with academic success based on research pertaining to college student’s positive outcomes. The time period that will be covered by this review will be within the most recent five years. As defined by Mounsey, Vandehey, and Diekhoff (2013) a traditional college student is one who is â€Å"enrolled in college directly after high school, relied on parents for financial†¦show more content†¦Although students who work and do not work experience there stress levels differently and according to the study more working college students experience more of a stress level then non-working students but the most interesting finding in this study is that working college students have a higher grade point then the non-working students (p.384). Suggestions as to why that were presented in the article is that students who work and go to school full time have the ability to manage their time more wisely then those who do not work (p.396-387). This data is again represented in another study that was produced by Lang (2012) which clarifies that college students who work maintain a higher grade point average then students who do not work (p.250). Another aspect that Lang’s experiment clarifies that more working students spend more time one their studies and working then they do with their social lives (p.250). The Black Death was an epidemic disease that was also known as the Bubonic Plague. It was one of the most tragic epidemics that has happened in the world. The Black Death hit England between the years of 1348-1350. This plague annihilated one third of its original population. Trading ships that came to England during this time were blamed for the spread of this disease. People believed that when trading ships left other countries that they would bring in infested rats that carried the disease. The film Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross is about two modern teenagers, David and his sister Jennifer, somehow being transported into the television, ending up in Pleasantville, a 1950s black and white sitcom. The two are trapped as Bud and Mary Sue in a radically different dimension and make some huge changes to the bland lives of the citizens of Pleasantville, with the use of the director’s cinematic techniques. Ross cleverly uses cinematic techniques such as colour, mise-en-scene, camera shots, costumes, music and dialogue to effectively tell the story. The town of Pleasantville is dull and this is reflected by its lack of colour - the town is completely black and white. Black and white life is simple and uncomplicated. Education is, perhaps, the most important of all social systems because it enables all the others by training individuals for their social roles. Still, it is a system which is far too complicated to perfect or even define. What is the â€Å"best† way to teach? What knowledge is it necessary for an â€Å"educated† person to attain? Should an education for one be the same as for another? In such an individual-centered field, the answers to these questions are as varied as the individual teachers, students, and others themselves. There is no correct answer; each teacher’s philosophy of education is surely founded on their own experience, societal views, and†¦show more content†¦The canons of literature, the principles of science, the exploration of history, and many more all build a foundation of what it is to be human and part of a human society. Lacking such an essential base, more liberal ph ilosophies collapse. These essentials, however, do not complete the picture. Knowledge and education cannot exist in a vacuum; just because a certain volume of human knowledge does exist does not necessarily mean it will be acquired or even prove useful without the right conditions. When teaching people, one cannot neglect the role of the individual in his or her own education.
